Want to Win a Karma Drone From GoPro?

We all know that GoPro is working on a drone. It's called Karma, and its coming in 2016. We don't know how it will differ from the other drones that are already available on the market, but you can bet it will offer great support for using GoPro's action cameras. Now, you can sign up for your chance to win one of the first Karma drones that roll off the assembly line, as the company is giving away 100 of them to get the hype train rolling.

To enter to win simply go to this page, and enter your email address. The promotion runs through March 31, 2016, with the winners selected on April 15 of next year. Hopefully that indicates that the new drone will be released sometime in the spring, but GoPro has hedged their bets on a release date by saying that contest winners will be notified by Dec. 31, 2016. Chances are the Karma will be available before then, but exactly when it will arrive – and how much it will cost – remains a mystery.

Check out the promo video for Karma below, which was of course shot on a prototype model. The quality of the footage certainly looks promising.

CheapOair and Qatar Airlines Are Giving Away a Pair of Bose Headphones Everyday in January

I don't typically post these kinds of giveaways on The Adventure Blog, but since I consider a good pair of headphones are an essential piece of travel gear, I thought it was worth sharing. Online airfare booking site CheapOair has joined forces with Qatar Airways to give away a pair of Bose wireless headphones every day during the month of January. These headphones typically cost $250, and offer amazing sound and great comfort in a lightweight package, which makes them a great option for travelers making a long flight.

Entry into the give away is simple. Just visit the Qatar Airways landing page at CheapOair, and click on the banner for the promotion. You'll be asked to login either via Facebook or by using your email address, either of which will earn you an entry into the contest. You can earn bonus entries by inviting friends to sign-up as well, or by joining the CheapOair mailing list. Each entry gives you an extra chance at scoring a pair of the Bose headphones.

For those not familiar with CheapOair, it is the fourth largest website for online booking of airfare – trailing behind just Expedia, Priceline, and Orbitz. The site is a great resource for travelers who are looking to save money when flying, and is one of  my "go to" options when I'm looking to book a flight. Customers can shop for affordable flights online or through a mobile app, while also interacting with customer service reps through live chat or phone.

As mentioned above, I pretty much feel like a good pair of headphones are a must have for anyone who travels with any regularity. When I set off on a trip, I always take a pair with me as it helps to pass the time on the flight, and can provide a nice sense of escape from the noisy surroundings. My favorite pair are wireless as well, which eliminates the bulky cables that can easily get tangled when taking them in and out of your bag. Prior to owning these headphones I hadn't really thought that that would be much of an issue, but now I don't ever want to go back to standard headphones if I can help it.

This is your chance to score some great Bose headphones for yourself. Head on over to the Qatar Airways page and sign up now.

How to Become an Adventure Photographer

Last week I shared a cool video that gave us some insights into what it takes to be a climbing photographer, a job that requires a great deal of skill in both disciplines. Yesterday, tech/gadget website Gizmodo published a similar story about how to become an adventure photographer, truly a dream job for many outdoor enthusiasts and frequent travelers.

The lengthy piece offers helpful tips on everything from what gear to carry, getting started in the business, and how to get published. It is packed with insights into the trade that are provided by adventure photographer Chris Brinlee, Jr.,  who is currently traveling around the world, and snapping great photos as he goes. Brinlee talks about what cameras to take with you on your adventures, including the trusty DSLR, as well as the new breed of mirrorless options and action cams like the GoPro. He even shares his thoughts on "mobile" photography using your smartphone, as well as which lenses to have in your arsenal, while also offering insights into memory cards, extra batteries, tripods, and so on.

The gear tips don't end there however, as Chris also discusses how to keep everything charged (Goal Zero of course!), which computer and software to use, storage options, and more. He even offers up some suggestions for dry bags should your adventure become one of an aquatic nature.

With the gear suggestions out of the way, the author moves on to discuss the profession itself, and how to get started on the path to becoming an adventure photographer. He recommends starting close to home, and shooting plenty of photos on local adventures before heading out on one that spans the globe. Look for nearby state or national parks that provide opportunities to shoot great photos, and start participating in the various outdoor activities that you want to shoot as well. Brinlee wraps up the story by discussing post-production activities for editing the photos, as well as options for getting images published.

All-in-all, an interesting read for anyone who enjoys photography on any level, but especially for those of us who wouldn't mind becoming professional photographers ourselves. There are plenty of insightful tips throughout the article that I'm sure that photographers of any level will find useful.

And once you've wrapped up reading this article, head over to Mashable to find out how you can win an outdoor photography package, complete with an Olympus OM-D E-M1 DSLR and lens.
